3 Gluten-Free Snacks Kids Will Love

Cook, Gluten-Free, Recipe Roundup

Cookies and granola bars may be out of the question for kids with gluten sensitivity, but after-school snack time should still be fun. Here are a few treats the little ones can enjoy without feeling the least bit deprived.

Corn, rice and nuts are hearty ingredients that are also usually gluten free. For easy snacks, substitute corn tortillas for flour ones when making quesadillas, or try puffed rice in place of granola in a fruit and yogurt parfait.

Nutty Jumbles

Nuts are packed with healthy fats that will stave off hunger until dinnertime. These clusters of almonds, pecans and walnuts are sweetened with brown sugar to create a tasty snack.

Chocolate-Caramel Popcorn

A natural whole grain, popcorn is a quick and easy gluten-free alternative to crackers. This caramel corn is topped with a drizzle of milk chocolate for a touch of decadence that kids will love.

Chocolate-Banana Bonbons with Toasted Almonds

If you’ve never frozen ripe bananas before, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how naturally sweet and creamy they become. Dipped in dark chocolate and rolled in chopped nuts, these treats are much healthier than they taste.

I love to bake, so living gluten-free has been a challenge. I’m really excited to try the nutty jumbles! Here’s a gluten-free cookie recipe that I love as well, for those out there like me who still like their cookies. It’s from the Red Tricycle site, which has a good gluten-free for kids section: http://www.redtri.com/gluten-free-lemon-almond-cookie. Bon Appetit!
