Best of the Web: One Family One Meal

Best of the Web, Meet

Moms, it is possible to please every person at the dinner table. Even the small ones.

The next food-blogging mom we’re featuring in honor of Mother’s Day, Amanda Haas, is taking a stand against substitutions and picky eaters with her website, One Family One Meal. The working mom of two boys believes families should come together during meal times over healthy, home-cooked dishes the entire family will eat — that means no big plate of mashed potatoes for the kids.

One Family One Meal offers free weekly menus, along with grocery shopping and budgeting tools that can be customized for individual families. The site also provides an archive of almost 200 recipes so you can create your own menus. With a little planning, you only have to go shopping once a week. Easy adaptations for restrictive diets simplify cooking for a crowd, and recipes like Make Your Own Burritos ensure that there’s something for everyone.

Recipes are approachable and kid-tested (mmm, Breakfast Cupcakes!), but these dishes will appeal to adults, too — Shrimp and Corn Quesadillas with Avocado Salad, anyone?

Another gem from One Family One Meal: Haas’ weekly menus. Along with the list of recipes, she writes a blog-style post about issues all parents face when feeding their families: getting kids to eat healthy foods, budgeting and even feeling entitled to breakfast in bed on Mother’s Day.
