A few years ago, my mother-in-law recommended that I purchase a pineapple cutter from Williams-Sonoma. I was skeptical. I had seen the typical white plastic pineapple cutters and didn’t think the tool would be effective at cutting the fruit. But she insisted that we buy two — one for me and one for her.
In the end, the tool was a great purchase! The Pineapple Easy Slicer is not like those “other” slicers. Made of stainless steel, it easily cores and cuts the fruit into beautiful rings.
Just follow these simple steps: Cut off the top and bottom of the pineapple. Line the center of the tool with the core of the pineapple and twist the cutter. The stainless-steel teeth easily carve the fruit into rings.
I found that you can control the thickness of the slices by altering your downward pressure when twisting the cutter. When the cutter has bored through the pineapple, pull it out and you’re left with the slices stacked neatly on the tool. I usually run a knife down the sides of the cutter to cut pineapple chunks. A chopstick helps to remove a stuck core from the center of the cutter.
I’ve used my Pineapple Easy Slicer frequently purchasing it. Since I like the product so much and the pineapple is a traditional symbol of welcome and good cheer, I have often given pineapples and the slicer as a housewarming or hostess gift. It’s a great conversation starter and always brings a smile to everyone’s face.
