At the start of every new year, we all look for ways to make our lives healthier. Maybe we go on a detoxifying cleanse or perhaps we start working out with a trainer. I propose a different, less drastic approach to leading a more healthful life. I say instead of cutting out, add in. I suggest mixing superfoods into your cocktails. These types of foods have proven health benefits with generally high concentrations of essential nutrients like antioxidants or vitamins.
Below are two delightfully nutritious cocktails that incorporate two of the most well-known superfoods – green tea and blueberries. Both of these “super-drinks” will have you feeling both festive and fabulous after just one sip. Who knows, maybe they’ll even help you shimmy into those skinny jeans you’ve been eyeing. Cheers!
Green Tea Martini
This caffeinated cocktail will help you keep the party going all night long.
2 ounces vodka
1 ounce chilled green tea
Cucumber, sliced, for garnish (optional)
Combine vodka and tea in a martini shaker with ice and shake until chilled. Pour into a martini glass and garnish with a slice of cucumber. Serves 1.
This is the perfect fruity cocktail for a sunny afternoon alfresco.
2 cups ice
1 cup frozen blueberries
2 Tbs. lime juice
4 ounces tequila
2 ounces orange liqueur
1 lime wedge
Combine ice, blueberries, lime juice, tequila and orange liqueur in a blender and blend until smooth. Rub rim of 2 glasses with lime wedge and dip in salt. Divide the drink between glasses and serve. Serves 2.
