Our team was thrilled to work with Suzanne Goin, the award-winning chef/owner of the famed Los Angeles restaurant Lucques, on our Mother’s Day Brunch menu this year. After all, who better to represent this special spring holiday? Goin is not only a champion of seasonal cooking and local ingredients; she’s also a busy mom of three with a down-to-earth culinary style we love.
Goin gathered her whole family (three generations!) to prepare and enjoy the full spring menu, including her own mom.
Born in Los Angeles to Francophile parents, Goin grew up surrounded by good food. She started cooking for her parents’ dinner parties when she was just 10, and from there she went on to work in some of the country’s finest restaurants: Ma Maison and L’Orangerie in Los Angeles, Chez Panisse in Berkeley and L’Arpege in Paris. Her work as executive chef at Campanile put her on the culinary map in LA and laid the groundwork for opening Lucques in 1998.
“To be a great chef, you can’t cook every plate of food yourself. You have to teach and mentor others to cook as well as you can,” says Goin. That goes for her little ones, too — the chef says it’s never too early to get kids involved in the kitchen.
