When was the last time you caught up with Molly Sims? Time to check in: The world-famous model and mom of three is a wellness and meal prep maven. (Check out her book, Everyday Chic: My Secrets for Entertaining, Organizing, and Decorating, which was published in 2017.) Always ahead of the curve when it comes to craft ideas and smart entertaining, Molly is a creative mother and host.
Since we love her fun, stylish solutions to everyday problems in busy lives, we reached out to Molly to find out her top pointers for a digital dinner party.
Make it Casual
“My friends and I have been doing digital dinner parties by setting a time to all sit down and eat dinner together,” says Molly. “We pour a glass of wine or a Paloma and act as if we’re all in the same room.” She and her friends are partial to happy hour, as opposed to a full-blown dinner party, which dials down the pressure. And don’t forget the games, Molly says. “We like to play Quiplash, How Well Do You Know Me? and Pictionary!”
Mix Up Your Look
Sure, you can wake up every day and put on “athleisurewear.” But why not play around with your look when you’re on that Zoom call? (It’s Molly’s platform of choice because “it can get a big group online and the quality of the video is amazing!”) Try a theme night, she suggests, whether it’s “wig night, hat night or cozy sunglasses. It’s like a virtual costume party!”
Extend the Theme to Your Menu
Whether you go with Italian, Asian, Mexican or other cuisines, extend the theme to your virtual party! Even if you’re having a happy hour, you can bring one little bite to the party. “It really makes it fun and we can have flair!” says Molly. (May we suggest our killer nachos and guac for Mexican night, satay or spring rolls for an East Asian night, or prosciutto-wrapped figs for Italian night?)
Start Whenever You Want
Keep in mind that it’s your call when you want to do “happy hour,” says Molly. “It’s never too early to start a happy hour over here in quarantine!” (Our tip: Staying connected is good for your mental health, and gives you a break from your partner or family. Just be responsible out there!)
