Combining lime and spirits is always a win: a margarita does it with tequila, a gimlet does it with gin and a mojito does it with rum. In this recipe, sake and lime juice are combined for a spin on Brazil’s national cocktail, the caipirinha. It’s just as delicious, bright and refreshing as all those other lime-and-spirits combos, and it’s a great way to kick off the weekend on a Friday after work.
Sakerinha
1 lime, cut into 8 wedges
2 tsp. superfine sugar, or to taste
Crushed ice
6 Tbs. (3 fl. oz./90 ml) sake
Combine the lime wedges and sugar in an old-fashioned glass. Using a cocktail muddler or the end of a wooden spoon, crush the ingredients in the bottom of the glass, pressing to extract as much juice as possible from the lime wedges. Add a handful of crushed ice and top off with the sake. Stir and serve. Makes 1 drink.
