Sarah Michelle Gellar knows that a lively kitchen is the key to a happy family. She may have become a household name thanks to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but more recently she’s been busy with her two-year-old lifestyle brand and baking company, Foodstirs, and a new cookbook, Stirring Up Fun with Food, both of which emphasize cooking as a fun, creative way to connect with kids.
The mom of two—she has a daughter, Charlotte, and a son, Rocky—knows that activities like baking don’t just connect parents to their children; they also help broaden kids’ palates. “To get my kids to be adventurous with their choices, I had to involve them in the process of preparing food,” she recalls in her book. We asked the passionate kitchen crafter what she’d recommend gifting to fellow moms who love taking the time to make DIY food projects with their kids. Here are a few of her suggestions.
Sarah Michelle’s Mother’s Day Gift Picks
A gift for the children is really a gift for mom, especially when it’s entertaining for kids and helps to make life easier: “What mom doesn’t like getting creative in the kitchen with her children? This way, the kids have their own tools to help,” Sarah Michelle points out.
“Not only is this tool immensely helpful,” she says, “but it also looks beautiful in your kitchen.” The mother of two’s favorite KitchenAid hue? The Candy Apple Red color.
“Having a great set of piping tips can make all the difference when food crafting,” Sarah Michelle says. To personalize the gift even more, package it with your favorite frosting recipe.
Sarah Michelle makes a good point: “Who doesn’t love Star Wars?” We’d have to agree that there’s probably nothing that’s going to top a morning spent with Yoda. She likes to use them when making her kids a batch of her organic Foodstirs pancakes.
“You can’t craft and have nowhere beautiful to display!” she says. We couldn’t agree more—this would be a great presentation vehicle for everything from muffins to lasagna cups (an SMG fave) to the galaxy doughnuts that are dominating Instagram accounts right now.
