We’ve entered a new year, and it’s time to take a new perspective on entertaining! You may have seen the buzz in the blog world about Kinfolk, but if you haven’t, I’d like to tell you about this beautiful quarterly publication. Kinfolk is your go-to guide for small gatherings. Whether it’s entertaining for one, two or many, Kinfolk encourages a natural approach to spending time with family and friends.
Kinfolk is a collection of artists, photographers, chefs, food stylists, designers and filmmakers. This community is interested in why we cook and eat together, as well as the people and relationships that are formed during these small gatherings. They are passionate about the relationships cultivated around the table by food and focus on the reasons we entertain.
I love to cook and entertain, but I often find myself trying to make things too complicated. I am frequently intimidated by recipes and the entire idea of entertaining for a group. Kinfolk is about simplifying this process and advocating for a natural approach to these gatherings.
Kinfolk Vol. II just hit stores in January and is already a huge hit! Some magazines you pick up are easy just to flip through and look at the pictures. This volume has so much great insight about gathering during the fall and winter months; think morning walks, candlelit dinners and embracing all the elements that surround us during the seasons. You’ll want to cozy up to the fire and read it front to back.
Kinfolk has inspired me to take a more easy-going approach to entertaining. That could easily mean making a great meal for yourself, lighting a candle and reading a great book – it is that simple! Kinfolk will cut away the clutter found in most food magazines and hone in on what really matters: why we entertain, why we cook and why such great relationships are formed by doing so. Pick up the latest issue at your nearest Williams-Sonoma store and tell us what you think!
About the author: Aundrea has been passionate about cooking for as long as she can remember. Starting at a young age, she was always in the kitchen with her mother and younger sister making something – oatmeal raisin cookies, red cake, pasta, risotto, you name it. Today she still loves to cook for her friends – especially on Sunday when she makes a big pot of soup to last the entire week. In her spare time, she likes to snowboard in Tahoe, run on the beach with her dog, Levi, and try new restaurants all over San Francisco. Currently the Assistant Buyer of cutlery and books, Aundrea is as passionate about the amazing products that she gets to work with as she is about her personal culinary adventures.
