blood orange cocktail

Blood Orange Tequila Tropi-cal

You'll want a tequila that's been slightly aged for this drink, such as reposado. (The oak barrels that age the liquor soften its flavors and smooth the agave notes.) Anejo tequila, aged one to three years, has a rounder, sweeter flavor, but you're better off treating it like a sipping drink.
Servings 1

  • 4 oz (125 grams) fresh pineapple chunks
  • 2 oz (60 ml) fresh blood orange juice
  • 1 ½ oz (45 ml) tequila reposado
  • ½ oz (15 ml) fresh lime juice
  • ¼ oz (7 ml) simple syrup 1:1 mix of sugar and warm water, dissolved
  • 1 oz (30 ml) club soda
  • 1 slice blood orange for garnish

  • In a cocktail shaker, muddle the pineapple and blood orange juice.
  • Add the tequila, lime juice, simple syrup, and 1 cup of ice.
  • Shake until chilled, about 30 seconds.
  • Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass, top with club soda, and garnish with the blood orange slice.
