It was at the Paris flea market that Williams-Sonoma’s home and tabletop team came across a dirty, dusty 20th-century French antique tureen. The tendril-shaped knob, scrolled handles and graceful footed shape could not be passed up, though the glaze was worn and yellowed after years of use.
The piece became the inspiration behind our new antique white collection, which we worked to make as authentic as possible. Artisans craft each one to achieve the warmth and character of china passed down from generation to generation.
Once a staple in people’s homes, as early as the 1600s tureens were used to show wealth and abundance at the dining table. Today, what a wonderful way to serve soups and stews! These pieces can also become beautiful centerpieces on your dining table or buffet on their own.
Our design team loves to entertain; we are always looking to showcase pieces that we use in our daily lives. The other pieces in the antique white collection — from serve bowls to gravy boats — can all be used everyday to add a special touch to your evening meals.
