We sat down with Kelli Galloway, owner of the iconic floral shop, Hops Petunia, in Hudson Valley, New York. At our Open Kitchen – a Makers’ Thanksgiving at Ravenwood, she let us in on her 5 best tips for creating the best Thanksgiving centerpiece ever.
1. Fruit & Greens!
“I love to pile fruit or gorgeous veggies together on a platter or bowl and weave in vines and greens throughout. It feels like an instant feast!”
2. Pull from Nature.
“Fall is a great time of year to pull from nature. Various heights of grasses and dried branches in the center of the table can be modern and minimal but feel full and impressive. Don’t’ be afraid to make them tall!”
3. Make a Base.
“Creating a base with greenery is super helpful to allow your flowers to stay in place, criss-cross stems of greenery creating a woven base that you can then place focal florals in. Classic traditional vase shapes are the easiest to use for this.”
4. Add a bit of the unexpected!
“We love to use an offbeat color or texture. Rust tones compliment almost any vibrant color and add complexity to your arrangement. Dried Beech branches are one of our personal faves!”
5. Combine Colors.
“The in-between colors are the most important. If you have a gold and pink flowers chosen, find a peach tone to bridge the two together creating a smooth color story in your arrangement.”
