While, my brother and I managed to eat half of the fruit we picked, before buying it, my mother made the best jams!!! One summer she experimented with different fruits, and made a really tasty tomato and rhubarb jam. I would love to win this. I did my first canning this summer with borrowed equipment.
I started canning all the fruit from our trees (peaches, pears, cherries and, later in the fall, apples) this year. I would LOVE to have a new water canner, though, so when I make spaghetti sauce (from garden fresh tomatoes), I can process twice as much. 😀
Canning time is coming up and a new set would be appreciated. Mine is close to 40 years old.
I would be soooo excited to can my own tomatoes!
I love you, Williams-Sanoma!!! This is an awesome set!

I was raised on a farm & have been canning & freezing all my life or at lease since I was aboout 6 yrs. old. My mom had Parkinson’s disease which made her hands shake; therefore I learned all this when I was a young child. Would love to have a set of these cooking utensils.
When our boys were young, we did a lot of canning. Now we belong to a CSA, just the two of us at home but we have enjoyed making pickles and are getting ready to attempt tomato sauce. Love the concept of knowing the grower and taking advantage of the “fresh from the farm” goodness of the produce!
Just what I need to prepare Zinnberry Jam from my grapes (I’m picking Zinfandel, Cabernet and Merlot this weekend) and the strawberries from my garden!! Canning and preserving is such fun, especially in December and January when you eat the “fruit of your labors”!!

It must be National Mason Jar day! This is the second post on my news feed about canning! I really need to can some marinara!
I have been wanting to can for so long. As is I have resorted to the food saver method by sticking a freezer bag into a sink of cold water which pushes the air out so I can vacuum seal it. I don’t have any money saving ways of properly canning, though. *fingers crossed*
This is something I have always wanted to do, particularly fruit preserves.

We canned tomatoes last weekend, the right tools would have been a big help!!!
This would be the perfect addition to my new found passion of gardening and saving my heirloom seeds since moving to California. Plus I have a plethora of tomatoes. When I am not working in the ER as a nurse you can find me outside experimenting; I have recently learned plant propagation and love sharing with my friends and family.

Every summer, I put up batches of red plum jam and apricot-pineapple jam (family recipe :). Lemon curd, made from our Meyer lemons, is a favorite. Last year I tried spiced honey — delicious! This year’s new recipe is for spiced apple jelly…still working on that one.
I am so happy canning is making a come-back and W-S has all the essentials!
Just found out about this giveaway. Great way to get people to go back to the basics avoiding preservatives.
There were eight children in my family growing up in rural Humboldt County. Thankfully, we were able to can all our fruits and veggies to eat all winter. This is the first time I have been on this site, and love the variety here. Never have I seen such beautiful displays of produce in jars. It is like living art. We were into quantity, not beauty. It makes me want to start canning again.
I would be thrilled to win , I have done any canning in many years and would like to start again .
Having fun this summer making strawberry and blueberry jam. Putting the Kilner jam pan on my wish list!

The Roasted Tomato Salsa recipe is delicious!
? Think how well presented pickled orca or home made salsa would look in your Weck canning jars! Among all the other things you’ld can.
Great idea! I do a lot of canning, pickling & preserving. My husband has more than one garden. Canning does make more work than freezing but the end product doesn’t require a freezer, & I prefer the quality of the product much more. We don’t have to worry about the power going out either. There is no thawing necessary when you use the home canned foods. When you take a home canned item to a potluck or large gathering it always gets tried & commented on. Love the Weck canning jar! Beautiful & classy!
I’d like to get into canning and preserving a bit more.
Would love this jam pan!
I just ordered the copper Jam pan. Can’t wait to get it in to try. I am still thinking about getting the Kilner pan because of the measurements inside and all the other things such as tomatoes I can use it to can.
Live in the Arizona desert and it so hard to get good produce. Finally found a food co-op and am so happy to be canning and putting up jam again. It is so much healthier and tastes better.

Love preserving what I grow!
Oh my gosh, my imagination is running wild with all the uses for a water bath canner. And my mind is flooded with memories of all the things that my mom would can while I was growing up: tomatoes, peaches, pears, beets, carrots, green beans not to mention pickles… Wonderful pickles, Bread and Butters, Mustard pickles, Dill pickles, Pickled beets…When I was young I took such things for granted. Now that I am older I am eager to follow in my mom’s footsteps and maybe even pass on this tradition to my kids. Here’s hoping!
I love doing pickles – we go through a least a jar a week
Canning is time well spent.

It would be wonderful if you included videos on how to can. I used to do it with my mother and make jam but it was so many years ago I completely forget how to do it! I would feel more comfortable learning from a video than written instructions as when you begin to can, you can remember what you have seen in the video easier. I’d definitely purchase all of the equipment if I knew how to use it!!
So many great uses for these!
Anything home-made is great!

Love the tall Weck jars.

This is the first year canning without my Mother so it is a little bittersweet… but the memories of all the veggies, juice, pickles and fruit that we canned together is priceless! Canning brings back so many memories of the SO MANY cans we put up every year from my grandparent’s garden. I really like to make preserves. Right now peach-blueberry is my favorite.
Tomatoes, most definitely!
In Oct. 2011 my brother and sister had my house trailer moved to where they live. They plant a monster garden every year and preserve their winter fruits, jams, jelly, pickles and veggies. This spring I got to be a part of that. The men pick the food in the morning and get it ready for us to can, freeze or dry. We (the ladies) finish the job. I have never enjoyed doing all that as much as I do with my family. And every time I eat something that is prepared by our hands, I feel so blessed.

I grow my own vegetables and the one vegetable that I always have an abundance of is zucchini. After weeks of frying zucchini fritters and baking zucchini bread, I need a change so I make zucchini relish and pickled hot zucchini spears.

I love the old standard dill and onion pickles. We use my great grandmothers recipe and the are a favorite of the family for sure. The secret to crunchy pickles is using small cold cucs and a grape leaf.
jalapeno relish!!
I love making jam of all types, and canning tomatoes every year. This year, though, my favorite preserve has been pickles! My first home-grown cucumber crop has been brined to tangy deliciousness with the help of my toddler preschool class. After washing hands, each picks a cuke and hands it to me. I slice it, then they stuff the spear into the jars. I do the brining and sealing after they are otherwise engaged. These have turned out to be the best pickles, ever!

Blackberries grow wild and abundant all around our home zone of living in the middle of a national forest!!! I can have as many blackberries to can, as I can pick!!! I like to make blackberry jams, jellies, syrups to can, and make fruit salads, smoothies, and snacks of blackberries by freezing them, and topping them with whipped cream in a bowl to eat, once they are frozen. I also like to can peaches from our neighbor’s trees, as they gift us with a lug of ‘bend over peaches’ (they are sooo juicy, you have to bend over to not get peach juice down your chin and front of your shirt!), and I usually buy a lug or two from them, as well. I put in my own garden in our pasture area this year, and it’s 200 ft. x 50 ft., tilled, weeded, and supplemented with compost from pine, oak, maple leaves, kitchen veggie and fruit scraps, and horse and cow manure from our own creatures. Zucchini, crookneck and scalloped squashes are doing fine, and we ought to have some Amish heirloom pumpkins do well by harvest time, too, for some homemade pumpkin pie filling of pureed pumpkin and spices that I’d like to can, too.
I love canning peaches. I love how they look in a jar and they are our favorite to eat in the fall/winter.

I love to make salsa from my garden – Roma tomatoes, Serrano peppers, cilantro, onions, garlic, and my special ingredient: Rose’s LIme Juice. This red salsa would look so great in some of those cool Weck jars, to give a Christmas gifts decorated with green ribbons!

My favorite summer food…so hard! I’m going to say crabapple butter. It’s the ultimate in thrifty. You take crabapples, which I forage from places that normally let them rot on the ground (places that don’t use pesticides). Then, after simmering out the juice and making jelly, I press out the pulp of all those tiny apples. It gets cooked down with a bit of the juice, some sugar and cinnamon. It’s just amazing. A near win is peach peel jelly.

Without a doubt my favorite are Roma tomatoes. Just the thought of them makes my mouth water-because that means I’ll be making sauce. My Sicilian mother-in-law taught me how to make sauce when I was nineteen. I am now fifty-six. She passed away four years ago. Every Sunday dinner when I make one of her dishes, I wave my hand over the sauce like she did and I smell the sauce. I close my eyes and I can hear her laugh and thank God I had her in my life. She was THE best cook. SHe will be forever missed.

Must of the summers of my youth were spent with my Nana in southern Oklahoma. Every year we picked plums from over 30 trees in her land. We then made plum preserves for every neighbor, family member and church goer she knew. Heck, even some she didn’t. She was sort of known for her huge basket with the blue plaid liner just full of jars of jelly and jam. She even had hand made labels that said, “Just Plum Good”. And it was. She just turned 100 this last April, and folks from all around came to wish her well. Most reminisced with her about her preserves. What a gift she is and what a blessing to have had those Oklahoma summers.
