For the next few weeks, we’ll be highlighting the finest European cookware from regions known for their world-class cuisine. Each of these timeless pieces are part of our new European Cookware Shop.
From France comes Staub’s elegant line of vividly-colored enameled cast-iron cookware. These classic pieces will make a statement in your kitchen and take your cooking to the next level.
Founder Francis Staub designed his first enameled pot while working in an old French artillery factory in 1974. He combined cast iron, the most popular cookware at the time, with the latest enamel technology available. Today, Staub is still made in the Alsace region of France–an area bordering Germany that’s known for traditional hearty fare and stews.
Each uniquely processed piece is cast in an individual sand mold, which is heated to 800F and destroyed after use. The vividly-colored exterior enamel coating is made with glass powder and mineral pigments, applied in two or three coats to generate brilliant colors.
“In France we like to spend hours cooking and eating meals that emphasize togetherness and the pleasure of taste. This is a part of Staub’s DNA and is incorporated in every piece we design.” – Lucie Courteaux, Staub Research & Development
