When Bronx-born culinary collective Ghetto Gastro and NYC–based Crux introduced the first instrument of their collaboration at Williams Sonoma last week—a minimalist all-black waffle iron with shocking red trim—the CruxGG TRNR Double-Rotation Waffle Maker sold out in less than 72 hours. And it’s no wonder. The Ghetto Gastro team serves up super sleek design with a generous helping of homegrown activism—a powerful combo that has inspired the support of a range of celebs from supermodel Gigi Hadid to chef Samin Nosrat.
Forward-thinking chefs Jon Gray, Pierre Serrão and Lester Walker are the creative trio behind the brand, joining forces to define a lane that transcends food, art, music, fashion and design. Their platform uses food to empower communities, fight racism and advance social justice. The brand is firmly rooted in the Bronx, which they celebrate as an inspiration and driver of global culture.
Now the chef-lead collective is ready for the next step in their Crux collaboration—the introduction of six additional state-of-the-art kitchen innovations. An 11-function Air Fryer combo. A super-powered blender with capacitive touch. A programmable coffee maker with a bright red warming plate.
A convection-speed air frying toaster oven. A 15-function bread maker. A 2-slice toaster with extra-wide slots. In their debut collection sold exclusively at Williams Sonoma, CRUXGG delivers form and functionality in design-forward kitchen essentials you keep on the counter because they’re just that sexy. The CRUXGG products are for everyone who’s plugged into the world beyond their kitchen—and who wants their kitchen to have that edge. They explain it best here:
Ghetto Gastro is a brand unlike any other. Since their founding in 2012, the collective’s work to explore global food traditions has led to immersive culinary experiences produced with the conceptual approach of art installations. In creative collaboration with fashion designers, artists, entrepreneurs, musicians, and art-focused organizations, their events spark larger conversations around inclusion, race, and economic empowerment.

Hi, I am hopeful that you will be inspired by this Asheville based woman recently winning the Ruth Fertel Keeper of the Flame award. I have the good fortune to be in the kitchen with her on occasion as she gives her entire soul and body to this work. And, her body could use a kind donation/upgrade from big businesses looking to share the wealth. I hope WS is one of these organizations. Please consider giving to her Southside Kitchen here in Asheville NC with all of your heart. Thank you for your consideration and time. https://www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2020/10/16/hanan-shabazz-honored-work-preserving-southern-foodways/5977955002/
Exciting new Brand!
My Mom has been raving about her Air Fryer for months and I finally got one. The Crux Pro has not disappointed. As a lover of wings I was skeptical of how air could deliver what is usually fried. I took it on a test run and Wow they were amazing. I proceeded to to make wings for the next 4 days straight. The crisp and juicy texture and ease of use spectacular. Also no clean up. It is also perfect for bacon which I just discovered. Highly recommend this versatile gadget to add to your kitchen.
This is so cool
amazing
I happen to stumble upon this brand while looking around on WS to see what’s new and I like what I see.
This is great! I am a fan! I am looking forward to purchasing their products. Please keep it coming!!
What a fun and diverse brand. I can’t wait to order a few of these products! Love to see inclusivity, especially in culinary!
Super excited for the Ghetto Gastro line! I might not need any of these small appliances at the moment but they’d make really great gifts. Representation from Black entrepreneurs is extremely important in the culinary world.
I agree!
