Nothing is better than a cold glass of sparkling water and a slice of lime. Add a warm spring day and a chair in a sunny location, and I’m all set! Sparkling water always feels more refreshing to me than plain water.
When I drink fruit juices, I make a fruit juice sparkler by adding sparkling water (2/3 juice to 1/3 water). I was making a trip to the local warehouse store to buy cases of sparkling water every other week, but the cost and the number of bottles to recycle was starting to add up.
My friend introduced me to the SodaStream that she received for a wedding gift, and I instantly fell in love. The SodaStream Pure Sparkling Water Maker makes sparkling water by carbonating plain tap water. Just fill the specialized carbonating bottles with tap water and screw it into the unit. You can control the amount of carbonation by the number of times you press the button on the top of the unit.
TIP
Follow the instructions carefully when adding the flavoring. Carbonate the water first, and THEN add the flavoring. If you put the flavoring into the water and then pressurize the bottle, it starts to overflow….and then it turns everything in a five foot radius with into a sticky, sweet mess. It took me half an afternoon to clean my entire kitchen.
The SodaStream does not need to be plugged in, and the CO2 cartridge is easily installed. According to the manual, each cartridge can carbonate about 60 liters of water, depending on the amount of carbonation you put into each bottle. I’m pretty sure I’ve carbonated well over 60 bottles of water on one cartridge!
SodaStream does make a series of flavors to transform the sparkling water into readily recognizable popular sodas. Some of the flavors are spot on; some leave a little to be desired. Part of the fun of getting your new SodaStream is trying all of the different flavors in the sampler pack.
Have you tried the SodaStream before? What are your favorite flavors?
