In San Francisco’s foggy Outer Sunset neighborhood, Outerlands restaurant is a cozy oasis of warm food and even warmer hospitality. It echoes the relaxed, beachy vibe of the surrounding area and serves up a menu of seasonal food and rustic dishes that’s legendary with locals and makes it one of our favorite restaurants in our own hometown.
Recently, we partnered with the team at the restaurant to share their casual, communal approach to creating meals for friends and family. The result is our Dinner with Outerlands, an occasion built on good food and good company and featuring a menu of colorful, comforting family-style dishes: Mushroom Mousse, Braised Lamb Shanks, Roasted Sunchokes & Carrots, and Farro Salad with Prunes & Shallots.
Discover the inspiration behind the food in our Q&A with Chef Brett Cooper, and learn how owners Dave Muller and Lana Porcello created such a special, unique space with Outerlands. We also talked to Pastry Chef Brooke Mosley and Dagan Ministero, the restaurant’s wine director, for their approach to gathering around a table with friends.
Finally, browse our photo galleries of the chefs at the market and the making of the meal to see the team bring their cooking and entertaining philosophies to life. (And don’t forget to share photos from your next gathering on Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook by tagging #myopenkitchen.)
We’re searching for the perfect place for our next Open Kitchen dinner. What’s your favorite spot? Tell us @williamssonoma!
