Happy Cinco de Mayo! Add spice to your celebration with this spicy cocktail courtesy of Jeremiah Doherty, beverage director at Los Angeles bar and restaurant Bar Amá. He explains that Fresno chiles are one of his favorite ingredients, saying, “They add a good kick of spice and some color to the cocktail as well.”
The Chupacabra
3 slices Fresno chile
1/2 oz. (15 ml) agave nectar
1 1/2 oz. (45 ml) gin
3/4 oz. (20 ml) St-Germain elderflower liqueur
1/2 oz. (15 ml) fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz. (15 ml) fresh lime juice
In a cocktail shaker, muddle 2 of the chile slices with the agave nectar. Fill the shaker with ice and add the gin, St-Germain and lemon and lime juices. Shake vigorously and strain into a glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with the remaining chile ring and serve immediately. Makes 1 drink.
