When it comes to Halloween gatherings, nothing gets the party started faster than some DIY treats you can make with friends. Each one of these do-it-yourself projects is a celebration in itself. So cue up the scary tune play list and ready the Hot Cocoa Cauldron with some Halloween snacks to power you through the process. Then roll up your sleeves for some party fun.
1. Construct Edible Skeletons
Pour cake or brownie batter into this cast aluminum pan and you can bake up all the bones you need for a few full-blown skeletons. Make as many skeletons as you have guests, toss the bones on the table, and let anatomy lesson begin. Offer piping bags of royal icing for detailed decoration. Applied along the grooves, the icing brings each bony structure into startling view.
2. Dip Caramel Apples
No tricky homemade caramel and no trips to the art store for wooden craft sticks! You bring the apples and this kit provides everything else you need for absolutely delicious caramel- and sprinkle-dipped apples. The caramel is hand-crafted in copper kettles and ready to go: just heat it in the microwave, ready your apples, and dip.
3. Build a Haunted House
This “haunted” version of a traditional gingerbread house is significantly spookier, though no less welcoming, than the wintery holiday version. The pre-baked gingerbread cookie pieces are cut to size, and the sides are stamped with window details to guide the decoration in this easy, DIY house kit. Use the colorful decorations to give your haunted home a custom finish. Make the house décor a group activity or buy several and make it a block party. Divide into teams and vote for the scariest house in town!
4. Decorate Cookies
When it comes to kid party crafts, cookie decorating is activity number one. Skip the prep and get right down to the hands-on fun with pre-baked Halloween cookie shapes ready for decorating. Or, set out Halloween-themed cookie cutters and mix up your own dough for kids to cut out themselves. Either way, cookie decoration is a one enterprise sure to encourage all the little ghosts and goblins to bypass the tricks and focus on the treats!
5. Make a DIY Waffle Bar
What could be better than to bake up waffles in a cute little iron that is so reasonably priced it can double as a party favor? Whip up a batch of our pumpkin spiced waffle batter, then let everyone cook up their own morning griddle cakes. Offer a range of toppings—whipped cream, maple syrup, pumpkin spice, pumpkin butter—so that everyone can customize their own creation.
