As proponents of the Christmas cookie tin, we’re big believers in the importance of cookie diversity. After all, we love a jam cookie as much as a bar cookie or a drop cookie. But even we have to admit: If there’s one cookie that will up your Christmas tin game, it’s the spritz cookie.
A spritz cookie is created using a cookie press, a cylindrical device that allows you to extrude cookie dough into various shapes using interchangeable plates. Most cookie presses come with multiple plates for creating a different shapes (think wreaths, hearts, snowflakes, leaves and so on).
The process is as simple as follows:
- Follow a recipe for spritz cookies.
- Load the spritz cookie dough into a cookie press.
- With a baking sheet ready, pull the lever or push the plunger, depending on the type of press you own. The dough should easily pass through a decorative disc onto the cookie sheet.
- Pop the cookies into a preheated 375ºF oven for 8-10 minutes.
