Memorial Day is a time to celebrate all-American classics, and nothing washes down grilled burgers and tangy coleslaw like a refreshing glass of homemade lemonade. Our recipe gives traditional lemonade a makeover with the addition of festive bubbles and fresh herbs.
Sparkling Mint Lemonade is a beverage kids and adults will love. Delicious on its own, it also pairs well with a variety of alcohols for the grown-ups. And our SodaStream Sparkling Water Maker (a customer favorite!) can provide all the bubbles you need.
Start by making a simple syrup: Mix 3/4 cup superfine sugar in 3/4 cup hot water until dissolved, then let it cool before using. This recipe makes 9 fl. oz. of syrup, slightly more than you’ll need for the lemonade. Refrigerate the extra for your next cocktail.
Once you’re ready to mix the lemonade, give the drink a creative spin and spike it with your favorite flavored vodka. A citrus vodka will complement the taste of the fresh lemon juice, but any fruity flavor will be fine. If you’re a mojito fan, add a splash of rum to the lemonade for a unique twist on the original.
Sparkling Mint Lemonade
1 cup fresh mint leaves, plus more for garnish
8 fl. oz. simple syrup (see directions above)
1 cup fresh lemon juice
6 cups cold water
Ice, as needed
2 cups sparkling water
Lemon wheels for garnish
In a punch bowl, combine the mint leaves and simple syrup. Using a muddler or wooden spoon, gently muddle the mint leaves, being careful not to tear them. Stir in the lemon juice and cold water. Add ice and the sparkling water. Garnish with lemon wheels and mint leaves. Makes 12 drinks.
