Yes, Thanksgiving was splendid. And, of course there’s Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Year’s to look forward to. Yet, for true lovers of peppermint bark, all of these holidays are just side steps on the path to the season’s most iconic treat—peppermint bark. This year, the route to the sweet sheets of white and dark chocolate bark studded with shards of candy cane is especially welcoming as we inaugurate the very first National Peppermint Bark Day this Wednesday, December 1.
Here’s how to celebrate:
1. Visit a Williams Sonoma store
Store associates will be waiting for you as the doors open, peppermint bark samples in hand. The pandemic put a hiatus on our sharing of peppermint bark, but a celebration this important means samples will be out on December 1st only to help celebrate the day!
2. Join Us for the 3rd Annual Peppermint Bark-Off
Last year’s competition was fierce (and we got some very good ideas!). This year, with Baking from Scratch’s Editor-in-Chief, Brian Hart Hoffman, along with reigning champion Erin McDowell and Joy the Baker competing, we can’t wait to see what treats each of the trio devises in an attempt to win the coveted first place prize!
4. Surf The Bark Web
We’re not the only ones getting geared up for the Peppermint Bark Day kick-off! All over the web, bakers and sweet influencers will be getting in on the action with their own peppermint bark masterpieces. In addition to our own Bark Off competitors and the chefs in our Test Kitchen, we’ll be tuning in to @twopeasandpod, @rachelquenzer, @brownedbutterblondie, @ainttooproudtomeg and @peanutbutterpluschocolate on instagram (among many others!) to
5. Go for the Bark!
Whether you’re a purist and prefer the plain piece of the bark on its own, like it in cookie form, go for the candy, or are the genius behind your own peppermint bark creations, there is a bark for every type of fan—19 different peppermint bark options to be exact. It a peppermint bark-off right on time to get everyone in the holiday frame of mind. As usual William Sonoma is on point with holiday recipes that brings back memories of childhood holidays when we looked forward to the small things that made our holiday special.
