You don’t need to be a “life of the party” or “Where’s my spotlight?!” type of person to feel a little pang at the limitations to your usual New Year’s Eve festivities. Few of us anticipated winding down 2021 quite like this. But you’ve got your gadgets, your glassware, and your internet connection (we hope!) so you can see your people while blowing horns-counting down-clinking virtual glasses with everyone else.
With you in mind, party person, here’s how we would Zoom into 2022. Be prepared to wow your friends.
Julep Bar Envy
“Hi, you guys! HI. Oh, that? Yeah, that’s just my DIY julep bar! I like to have plenty of sugar cubes, orange twists, Luxardo maraschino cherries, you know, the whole nine yards. What do you guys have? Prosecco? CUTE.”
Citrus Cocktail O’Clock
“Oh, this? Don’t even worry about it! Those are just flambéed blood orange slices for my bourbon and an edible chamomile sprig in my bubbly and you guys are doing jello shots? That’s just marvelous. Good for you. Way to ring in the new year.”
Elegant New Year’s Eve Supper
“Hi! Yes. I thought an elegant new year’s eve supper should be on this year’s calendar. I made soufflés and had caviar with homemade blini on this beautiful plateware. Oh no trouble at all, truly, it was a cinch!”
Classic Bubbly Spread
“Really! I do this every year. Sometimes a tasting of Cava, Prosecco, Crémant and non-vintage sparklers, other times a sampling of different vintages from the same vineyard in Champagne. Just a little end-of-the-year education! And I finish each tasting in exactly the same way—a toast! So raise your glasses everyone and join me in wishing a very happy New Year to us all!
